This is a blog about what I had to do in my ART classes in college, starting with my experience in the WASH progam here at SAM.

The Final Four (the pretty ones.)
I think they turned out really good. It took me a couple times for each to make them perfect. Well, maybe they are not completely perfect but I think they are at least at 95%.

Module Madness!
For our first 3D project, we were asked to bring in about 100 of one thing and to make something out of it. I had to think about this. I had to find something affordable and something that I could easily if I needed more. First, I thought forks were the way to go. So I went to the dollar store to buy them, then I saw the dixie cups! I thought that would be so easy to put together something. It would definitely be a lot easier to put together than the forks. When we came to class the next day, we were asked to make something out of it off the top of our heads. I just decided to build towers. It was the easiest thing at the time. The above picture was my end product. After that, we went around and looked at other peoples things and what they made. Then we were asked to pick somebody else's stuff and move and shape it in our own way.
What do you see?
On Jan. 19th, we had our first lecture. First, we talked about what is art. As a class, we made a list of what made art...art.
Here's the list:
- Way of seeing things/someone's perspective
- Expression of emotions
- it's creative
- Aesthetics
- Philosophy
- Blend of concepts (Basic and complex)
- Somebody told you it was art
- Unique
At the end of the lecture, Bill showed us a painting(above) and a quilt and told us to write down what we saw.
This is what I saw in the quilt:
- Stitched with different fabrics
- lots of colors
- diamond pattern
- in every square, there is a small red square within
- old
In the painting:
- the pear
- oil painting
- I feel that the artist might of set this up and took a picture of it first to get the lighting and shadows right
- window frame
- plant
- weird table

The Best of the Best
The first one at the top left corner is my best approach at proximity that my group chose. My group said it was most unique out of the four I displayed. I would have to agree. It was very different than the rest of the ones I drew. The top right corner is my closure sketch. My group said it was the one that best portrayed the law. I didn't agree at first best after going through my best ones, I decided that this one was THE best. The bottom left is my similarity sketch. My group did not pick this one. I decided to go against what they said because I thought that their pick was too safe. I think this sketch was very much out of my comfort zone. The last one is my continuity sketch. The group decided on this one because they liked that I used different sizes of circles. I think this one might be my favorite. I totally agreed with my group's choice.

Dot Dot Gestalt
Closure
Continuity
Similarity
Proximity
When this project was first assigned, I was really scared. This is the first art class that I have ever been in. It was just really overwhelming and it seemed like it was going to be really hard for me. Well, once I sat down and started working on I found out that I was better at this than I thought. I know it's just dots but I gotta start somewhere. I'm excited for what's to come.
